We are delighted to see that BBC Music Magazine rates our International Piano Festival and Summer Academy as worthy of third place in its Live Choice selection of unmissable events taking place across the UK during August. Trailing only The Proms and Edinburgh Festival we feel that we are in pretty exalted company…The critics have singled out our celebration of the 200th anniversary of Liszt’s birth with a recital by Leslie Howard and also a round table discussion marking the composer’s ‘Eureka Moment’ for praise, but also pick the Sheldonian Theatre concerts to be given by Menahem Pressler, Stephen Kovacevich and Stephen Hough from a week full of musical highlights and revealing masterclasses. Don’t forget that these classes are all open to the public and provide a fascinating glimpse of music in the making.

Monday, July 11th, 2011What does an observer do at the Piano Festival?
Thursday, July 8th, 2010Alongside the participants, the observers are the people who make our Festival tick. Being there to watch one of our masterclasses isn’t like being a member of any old classical audience. Instead you’ll have the chance to actually meet both the professors and the participants, and you’ll be among the first to discover the stars of tomorrow!
The observer role is suited to just about every lover of music. Perhaps you’re an aspiring pianist who wants to get a head-start with new repertoire, or a teacher looking to broaden your palette of pedagogical methods; or maybe you’re just a classical music enthusiast who’s always wondered how concert pianists manage such highly-polished performances. If any of those sound familiar, then coming to the Festival as an observer is the choice for you!
The quality of the master classes was high, and there were many to choose from. The recitals every night were wonderful and inspiring.
