Child-friendly Christmas Concert: 16 Dec

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Oxford Philomusica are continuing their Children for £1 scheme at the Christmas Concert with Howard Goodall on Thursday 16 December 2010, 7.30pm. (£1 tickets now sold out)

The Music
It is an ideal concert to introduce children aged 7+ to classical music. The music is very varied with orchestral and choral music spanning from the Baroque to C20th.

Multi-award-winning British composer Howard Goodall presents the concert with Enchanted Voices and soloist Bozidar Vukotic. Interspersed between the sleigh rides, Christmas concertos and carols, Goodall presents music from the soundtrack to the ITV natural history series, “The Seasons with Alan Titchmarsh” and from his stunning new album “Pelican In The Wilderness”.

Child activities
• Join us for the child-friendly intro at 6.30pm with a guide to the concert and listening tips. Bring your singing voice, something that jingles and a question to ask about the music.
• Alternative programme notes with pictures will be provided with what to listen out for in the music.
• Musical craft activities will take place during the interval in the Cecil Jackson Room

Oxford Philomusica has reviewed its ticket pricing policy and has decided to cease its blanket Senior Citizens discount.  It is, however, committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier to attendance at its concerts and, in addition to Friends discounts and multiple booking discounts, the orchestra also operates a Pay What You Can scheme.

Making Oxford Philomusica Accessible to All

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Cost should never be a barrier to music, and Oxford Philomusica runs a number of schemes to make our music accessible to as wide an audience as possible.

Concessions
We give generous discounts to selected groups enabling seniors, students and children to take advantage of tickets for as little as £5. The re-structuring of our subscription series has also seen an enthusiastic uptake, with loyal attendees benefiting from up to a 35% discount.

Pay What you Can
We have recently introduced a scheme offering a limited number of tickets, a week before each concert in exchange for any small donation. Established predominantly in the theatre world, it is a rare initiative for an orchestra and we anticipate an enthusiastic uptake.

LAUNCHED 15 MAY: £1 tickets for Children

 Discover Classical Music

Ever been frustrated that you can’t get a babysitter for a concert?  Don’t bother, as The Eight Seasons on Saturday 15 May is ideal to introduce children aged 6+ to the classical concert. The concert has been specially designed to be accessible for all the family so you can enjoy the excitement of an orchestral concert together.

‘We’ve never been brave enough to take him to a classical concert before because we were worried he’d make a noise or get bored, but he lapped up every minute.’

THE EIGHT SEASONS

Oxford Philomusica’s recently appointed new leader, Tamás András, will make his solo debut with the orchestra in a fascinating double bill featuring Vivaldi’s much loved and familiar Four Seasons juxtaposed with Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.  The glorious Baroque concertos will be followed by the Argentinian master of tango’s vibrant and passionate twentieth century work.

The concept that at any given moment the two hemispheres of our planet have opposite seasons – eight in total – is the inspiration for this novel combination of works, all of which are lively, engaging pieces and extremely child-friendly. Doors open at 7pm for families with a treasure trail, FREE activity packs and musical craft activities during the interval.

Tickets £37, £26, £17.50, £10 (child tickets ½ price or £1 in the Upper Gallery) on 020 8450 1060
